Online Owls is like the Uber of IT.

Online Owls, a provider of trusted, immediate and affordable on-demand tech support, announced the launch of the business in the Washington, D.C. area, revolutionizing how people get tech support for their computers, smartphones and other Internet-connected devices.

The company quickly connects people with pre-screened and certified independent technicians, eliminating the hassle of changing schedules to wait for a tech support team or waiting in line for expensive, time-consuming solutions.

Through Online Owls’ website or phone hotline, people can easily request on-site or remote tech support immediately or at a time that fits their schedules. A certified and trusted technician responds to the call and sets up either on-site or remote support within the hour. Technicians are all certified and have passed thorough background checks.

Online Owls adds to the growing “gig economy” in the U.S., where more and more Americans are working either full-time or part-time as independent contractors for on-demand services.

According to research firm Edelman Berland, 53 million Americans – about one-third of the U.S. workforce – are part of a $715 billion freelancing economy. The survey also found that among full-time workers, 80 percent said they would happily freelance on the side if offered a chance.

Initially launching in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, Online Owls plans to expand its service nationwide in 2016. In the greater D.C. metro area, an estimated 1.4 to 2 million people use broadband Internet at home, according to a study by Pew Research Center. A recent survey by Parks Associate found that an estimated 68 percent of D.C. area households said they would be interested in technical support that caters to their devices.

“There is a real need for technical support that is immediate, affordable and convenient that can come to your location when it fits your schedule,” Bruno Bianchi, CEO and co-founder of Online Owls, said. “As the world becomes more connected and devices increase in number and complexity, it is more challenging than ever to install, troubleshoot, repair or even learn how to use some of them. Online Owls fills that need with a service that is secure and reliable.”

A serial entrepreneur with more than 15 years of experience in information technology consulting, Bianchi co-founded Online Owls – the third company he has started since 2010 - with his brother. Prior to Online Owls, Bruno was the founder of Destro Consulting, an IT consulting firm that provides IT services to small and medium-sized businesses in the greater Washington, D.C. region. Before that, Bruno served as the owner of Biantech, LLC, an IT consulting firm based in Reston, Va.
