Obituary

Jack B. Rupert

Died April 7, 2008

Jack Burns Rupert, 79, a longtime McLean resident, died April 7 at Springtree Health and Rehabilitation Center in Roanoke from complications after heart surgery.

A service of remembrance will take place at Trinity Ecumenical Church at Smith Mountain Lake on April 11 at 11 a.m.

Mr. Rupert was born Feb. 25, 1929, to the late Paul Raymond Rupert and Mildred Burns Rupert. He and his wife of 56 years, Shirl Rupert, were residents of McLean from 1958 to 1998. Rupert Street was named for Mr. Rupert’s father, who surveyed the land for the new home sites in the area.

The Ruperts owned Congressional Laurel Studio in Rockville, Md., which did portraits for families throughout Northern Virginia.

The Ruperts retired to Smith Mountain Lake, to a home on the lake. Mr. Rupert was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed a celebration of his life with more than 100 family members, friends and caregivers at Springtree Health and Rehabilitation Center on March 30.

Survivors also include four daughters, Carola Enriquez of Bakersfield, Calif., Paula Petrey of Lynchburg, Andrea Ross of Charlottesville, and Jackie Ryder of Roanoke; a son, Adam Rupert of Gautier, Miss.; and 13 grandchildren.

Memorials can be sent to Trinity Ecumenical Parish, Smith Mountain Lake, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA 24101.
