APEX gymnasts going to JOs

The APEX Boys Gymnastics Team, levels 7-10, competed in the Region VII Championship April 12-13 at Lehigh Valley Sports Academy in Allentown, PA. The team performed well with Aaron Meland of Reston and Benjamin Cluss of Winchester qualifying for the Junior Olympic National Championships, which will be held at the Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek, MI, May 7-11. APEX boys levels 5-6 will compete April 26-27 at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

The boys range in age from 10 to 15 and compete on six events: floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars, and high bar.

Notable scores include:

Level 7:
Emerson Fennell 4th on pommel and 6th all-around.
Matthew Rubright 2nd on pommel.
Aleksiy Shamenko 11th on rings.
Hunter Voegele 12th on vault.

Level 9:
Benjmin Cluss 19th on high bar.
Aaron Meland 3rd on vault, 6th on high bar and 9th all-around.

Level 10:
Nathan Cluss 23rd on high bar.

APEX gymnasts represent the Commonwealth of Virginia. Other states competing in Region VII are: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
