The following are some of the art exhibits taking place in the Fairfax-Loudoun area: 'A Really BIG Show.' From Thursday, Jan. 8, to Thursday, Feb. 5, visitors can watch 12 artists make a huge work of Lake Anne-themed art that will fill the back wall of the Reston Art Gallery and Studios. New Exhibitions at MPA. The McLean Project for the Arts opens three new exhibitions with a reception Thursday, Jan. 8, 7-9 p.m. at MPA’s gallery space, which is housed in the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave. They continue through Saturday, Feb. 21.

In the Emerson Gallery: “Cellular Perspectives: Works by Betsy Stewart and Patrick Craig.” Works by two mid-career Washington-area painters who share an interest in examining and enlarging visual images that reference the biological.

In the Atrium Gallery: “Comfort Zones: Paintings by Michele Montalbano.” Interior room-scapes that explore electric color interactions and the depiction of space and pattern.

In the Ramp Gallery: “Tom Wagner, Spaces of Places.” Post- industrial landscapes that combine painting, photography and drawing.

'Focus.' The Greater Reston Arts Center opens a new “Focus” exhibition, featuring the works of three artists, with a reception Sunday, Jan. 11, 4-6 p.m. at its gallery space, 12001 Market St., Reston Town Center. The exhibition includes photography by Erin Antognoli, oils by Joy Every and sculpture by Marcia Wolfson-Ray. The exhibit continues through Saturday, Feb. 14. 'Form and Function.' An exhibit called "Form and Function: Paintings and Mixed Media" by Van Nguyen will open Jan. 16 and run through Feb. 26 at Marymount University's Barry Gallery in the Reinsch Library on the main campus at 2807 N. Glebe Road in Arlington. The artist's reception will be held Friday, Jan. 16, 5-7:30 p.m.

Admission is free.

Gallery hours are Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., and Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Youth art show. There will be a youth art show Feb. 8-28 at the Franklin Park Arts Center, 36441 Blueridge View Lane in Purcellville. A reception will be held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m.

Students throughout Loudoun County are invited to submit their artwork in all media. Art is judged by a panel of adult artists, and ribbons are awarded. Everyone receives a certificate of appreciation.

'North, South, East, and West.' An exhibit of 37 black-and-white landscape photographs titled “North, South, East, and West” by Jan Bender, of Great Falls, is on view at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reston through Feb. 8. 'ARTravels.' “ARTravels -- Inspirations From Around the World,” featuring mixed-media collage by Margot Lebow and photography by Deborah Droke, is on exhibit through Feb. 2 at the Jo Ann Rose Gallery at Reston Community Center's Lake Anne Village Center.
