Springfield Chamber encourages residents to shop local

The Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, together with area merchants, is hosting Shop Local, a campaign to encourage residents to spend their hard-earned dollars in their community this holiday season.

The campaign, designed to build awareness of local merchants during tough economic times, runs through Dec. 24.

“The campaign is just good common-sense. Shopping local keeps tax dollars here where we need them,” said Jeffrey C. McKay, Lee District Supervisor.

Area residents are encouraged to visit the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce Web site at www.springfieldchamber.org to download a Shop Local coupon, or to search the available merchant lists. Between Burke and Fairfax Station, Franconia and Kingstowne, Lorton Station and Springfield, there are thousands of local merchants ready to serve customers with their holiday gift-giving needs.
