Road closed in Great Falls for pipe repair

A section of Walker Road between Harriman St. and Golden Falcon St. in Great Falls will be closed for five days in early December while emergency repairs are made to pipes carrying Captain Hickory Run under the road, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced today.

The road will be closed from Monday, Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. until Friday, Dec. 12 at 2:30 p.m. This section of Walker Road is north of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) near the community of Hickory Run. Motorists bound for Georgetown Pike, north of this section of road, will be detoured on the following route, which will add about 10 minutes to the normal travel time:

Detour: Route 7 west, right on Springvale Road, right on Georgetown Pike (Route 193) back to Walker Road. The route will be clearly marked by VDOT variable message signs and direction signs.  Motorists heading south from Georgetown Pike (Route 193) to Leesburg Pike (Route 7) will travel the detour in reverse.
