Robinson's McKeag leaves for Varina

Robinson boys basketball coach Matt McKeag has announced that he is leaving the program effective immediately. McKeag is heading south and taking over as head coach at Varina High School in Richmond.

"This was a personal decision for my family," said McKeag, who informed his players Monday. "We just decided to pursue another area and we settled on Richmond based on my ability to get a head coaching job."

McKeag took over as coach at Robinson in 2005 and led the Rams to a 35-52 overall record in three seasons. They finished 7-5 in Concorde District play in 2007-08, the best district mark in his tenure.

"I think the program is heading in the right direction," said McKeag, who graduated from Chantilly in 1999. "I've had a great situation here. We've done a lot of good things. This is a big change, but we thought it was necessary."

Robinson is currently accepting resumes for the newly vacant boys basketball head coaching position. Interested candidates should send their resumes to Director of Student Activities Mike McGurk at Michael.McGurk@fcps.edu. The job will close on Tuesday, May 20.
