Mount Holyoke's Didion named All-American:

Mount Holyoke College senior Ashley Didion was recently selected to the 2008 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III Pocock All-America second team. The Great Falls native and Langley graduate is the fourth Lyon in program history to earn All-America honors. Didion was one of 18 rowers to receive the award, which honors the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division III institutions.

Didion led Mount Holyoke to a second-place finish at the NEWMAC Championships this spring. Didion was a member of the varsity 8 boat, which finished second in its race. They were ranked seventh in NCAA Division III.

Zivic finds success with Guilford lacrosse:

Guilford College sophomore Tyler Zivic recently completed the 2008 season with the Quakers lacrosse team. The Oak Hill native and Oakton graduate started 12 of 14 games this year, scoring at least one goal in 11 of those contests. Zivic finished second on the team with 12 goals and third on the team with 15 points. Through 24 career games, Zivic has 19 goals, six assists and 38 ground balls.

Herndon-Reston Shock win conference championship:

The Herndon-Reston Shock U-13 lacrosse team went undefeated in regular season play and earned the title of Northwest Conference Champions this week. They advanced to the SE/NW championship game by winning all three of their playoff games, but lost to a close contest to a talented Prince William team. The Shock is made up of girls from Reston and Herndon, and finished second out of more than two dozen teams throughout Northern Virginia in the U-13B division.

Tryouts and Announcements:

Herndon Optimist Youth Football will provide two free camps on June 16-20 (football only) and July 21-25 (football & cheerleading) from 6 until 8 p.m. at Herndon Middle School. Pre-registration is not required, but you can register now for the fall football and cheerleading seasons today at www.HOYF.com. Register prior to July 31 to avoid the $25 late fee. Football ages range from 7-16, while cheerleading includes children ages 6-15. Contact Registrar@hoyf.com for football or info@hoycheer.com for cheerleading.

The girls U10 Herndon Wanderers reached the Silver Division Championship Game of the 33rd annual Virginia Soccer Tournament -- held over the Memorial Day weekend -- for the fifth consecutive time, but the local group came out on the short end of a hard fought 2-1 loss to a strong squad from Chantilly. The Wanderers have amassed a 14-2-4 record through their past five tournaments, averaging 2.2 goals per game and allowing only .55 per contest.

Registration for the Reston Youth Association (RYA) Fall 2008 Football and Cheerleading programs is are open to children ages 6-16 in Reston and surrounding areas. The fee is $100 for those registered by June 30, and financial assistance is available. No experience is needed and league rules require full player participation regardless of ability or experience. Obtain information on the RYA programs and register online at www.restonseahawks.org. Registration forms are also available at the Reston Library, Community Center and YMCA. The Reston Strikers, a rising U-13 WAGS Division 3 soccer team is holding tryouts at Shreevewood Elementary School in Falls Church on June 11 and 13 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and June 15 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. For further information, visit www.restonsoccer.org.

The Fairfax Surf Shop and the City of Fairfax will be holding the second annual Skate Fest Fairfax on June 20 and 21 at the Van Dyck Skate Park.
