Area swimming roundup: Fairfax (July 9-16)

The Pleasant Valley Piranhas (1-2) suffered a 213-189 loss to Hiddenbrook in Northern Virginia Swimming League Division 12 action on July 5. Girls double winners were Kristen Neitz, Mary Duran and Lauren Hayden. Those three teamed with Julie Nichols to also take the 13-14 100-meter relay medley. Boys double winners included Ryan Estep, Garrett Anderson, Drew Carinci, John Kost and Jonathan Lyell. Kost and Lyell teamed with Joseph Duran and Carinci to take the boys 11-12 100 medley relay.

Langley Club lost a close one to Villa Aquatic on Saturday as the teams were tied going into the last event, but Villa Aquatic dominated the butterfly and took the meet. Double-event winners for Langley were Emily Wallach, Isaac Peress, Nathan Johnson and Katie Robinson. Single-event winners included Jack Hoeymans, Kyle Morin, Megan McCreary, Tatiana Bennet, Nathan Robinson, Nicole Johnson, Meghan Overend and Jamie Sexton.

The Sequoia Farms Stingrays improved to 2-1 with a victory over ManorGate. There were numerous lead changes throughout the meet, but in the end, Sequoia Farms' relay teams propelled the Stingrays to the win.

Triple-event winners for Stingrays included Brian Chapman, Chris Martin and Bridget O'Malley.

In other action, Chesterbrook swamped Little Rocky Run and climbed to 2-1 on the season. Chesterbrook took a nearly 50-point lead in the Backstroke events and never looked back. The Tiger Sharks are now tied for second in Division 1, and they will host the Division 1 Relay Carnival July 9.

Veronica Wolff, Joey Sullivan, Nowell Boardman, Matthew Kuhlik and Hannah Welch were double-event winners for the Tiger Sharks.

The Hunter Woods Blue Marlins edged the Lake Newport Lightning, 554.5-546.5.

Dylann Nasr, Ashley Turner, Rachel Tang and Lucy Tamberrino secured victories in three events for Hunter Woods.

Meanwhile, Lake Newport's Casey Storch, Katie Storch and Omar Zaki outswam the field for three events of their own.

The Lake Audubon Barracudas mauled the Autumnwood Piranhas, 700-387.

Victorious in three events for the Barracudas were Garrison O'Donnell, John Hughes, Vela McBride, Shane Scoggin, Sabrina Groves, Scott Badget, Lauren Petka, Austin Chute, Alissa Avilov and Sarah Timreck.

Scott Confer was the Piranhas' lone triple-event winner.

Newbridge triple-event winners James Baldwin and Stephen Baldwin guided the Dolphins to a narrow 539-502 victory over the Glade Gators.

Jonathan Christensen swam well in a losing effort for Glade; he, too, secured three events.

With the 9-10 boys and 11-12 girls winning all of their events, the Great Falls Rapids improved to 2-1 on the season in Division 14. They defeated the Woodley Warriors, 213-184.

Double-event winners included Mary Liz Elliott, Evan Guidi, Jason Guidi, Ty Kovacs, Elizabeth Longosz, Jake McCarty and Max Wingo.

In spite of sweeping the 13-14 girls breaststroke event and 15-18 boys backstroke and breaststroke events, the Hamlet Green Feet fell 276-126 to a very strong Overlee Flying Fish team.

Double-event winners for Hamlet were Ian Rainey and Ryan Lichtenfels.

The Green Feet will celebrate Senior Day on July 12.
