Fatal crash in Annandale area

MONDAY, DECEMBER 1 2008

One man died and another was seriously injured in a crash that occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28 at the intersection of Annandale Road and Poplar Street.

A 2000 Chevy Pick Up truck was traveling northbound on Annandale Road, attempting to make a left turn onto Poplar Street. A 2002 Ford F250 Pick Up truck was heading southbound on Poplar Street when the two vehicles collided head-on.

Both drivers were transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Firat Polat, 39, of Center Street, Vienna, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the other vehicle (a Ford Pick Up truck) is a 38-year-old Falls Church man, admitted to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Neither speed nor alcohol appears to be factors in the crash, according to police.
