This Week's Poll

What do you think the General Assembly will do to address the transportation issue when they return to Richmond next month?

A plan with local and statewide components will pass.
A plan with only regional components will pass.
No bills will pass both houses.

Late rally sparks Madison to win

The Madison baseball team had not been used to losing games in recent years, so a recent three-game slide may have come as a surprise. But coach Mark Gjormand believes those losses were beneficial to his Warhawks.

“That three game slide actually made us better. I feel better about my team today than I have all year,” said Gjormand after his team rallied for an 11-5 win over Woodson Friday night.

Madison trailed the Cavaliers, 5-4, heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Warhawks exploded for seven runs in the frame to cruise to victory. After tying the score at five, a passed ball on a third strike to sophomore T.J. Ehrsham started Madison's run.

“We had a real good approach at the plate,” Gjormand said. “We hit the ball hard all night long. We stung some balls.”

The Warhawks sit at 9-6 overall and just 5-4 in Liberty District play, but with the number of teams that can win on any given night, Gjormand feels his club is in a nice spot.

“Everything good is still in front of us,” he said. “All our goals are still wide open. We're right in the mix.

“Sometimes, something like this might be a spark to something big.”
