Hayfield softball bounces Titans
Note to Patriot District softball teams: Watch out for Hayfield. Especially at the plate. The Hawks hosted T.C. Williams Friday evening and the game quickly turned into batting practice. Hayfield teed off on the T.C. Williams starting pitcher, scoring 11 runs in the third inning en route to a 20-0 thrashing that was called after four and a half innings due to the mercy rule.
Senior Kelsey Talbot went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, while freshman second baseman Megan Perry-Shifflett was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI. Junior Allyson Lohr was 2-for-2 at the plate, reached on an error and drove in three runs.
Many of Hayfield's runs came on wild pitches and bases-loaded walks.
Hayfield improved to 12-2-1 overall and 8-2 in Patriot games. The Hawks will play West Springfield next Friday and South County on May 9, the two teams that beat them.
“Next week's gonna be a tough week with West Springfield,” Hayfield coach Ron Giovannucci said. “They beat us pretty good the last time, so hopefully we'll be able to get some payback on them. Next week's key, and then South County wraps it up.”
