Two arrested after high speed chase

A Fairfax County police officer was injured after suspects in a stolen black 2007 Ford Explorer rammed his police cruiser while the suspects were chased at high speed along Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield.

Brian Gomez, 31, of Fort Washington, Md., and Georgette Hodge, 26, of Oxon Hill, Md., were arrested along the outer loop of I-495 near Telegraph Road.

Police said that at around 3:25 p.m., officers tried to stop the car on a traffic-related charge at Franconia Road and Thomas Drive. The driver did not stop and the car, with Virginia tags, was reported stolen, police said.

Pursued by police, the suspects drove east into central Springfield and then made a U-turn at Commerce Street toward the Springfield interchange.

The suspect then rammed the police cruiser, also hitting other police cars and cars in the area before driving onto I-495 south toward the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

One officer suffered head injuries that were not life-threatening. No one else was hurt.

Police said Gomez ran away from the car prior to the Telegraph Road exits on I-495, leaving Hodge in the car. He was arrested “moments later,” police said.

Gomez was charged with grand larceny, malicious wounding, attempted malicious wounding, felony eluding police, no operator's license and two counts of felony hit and run. Hodge was arrested in the car and charged with grand larceny.
