Peace, quiet stressed at Massage Envy

“Peace” is the word at the new Massage Envy massage therapy clinic in the Fox Mill Shopping Center.

Quiet is also emphasized. The new 11-room clinic boasts a “quiet room” that is meant to be used almost like an airlock between the harsh environment of your hectic daily life and the comfortable, dimly lit, musically enhanced world of therapeutic massage.

In the room, as you begin to unwind to the gentle splashes of the wall-mounted waterfall, you are just minutes away from a customized massage session.

According to Clinic Administrator Luz Rivera, because Massage Envy is a national franchise consisting of more than 400 locations, it is able to offer reasonably priced massages and a membership program that is accepted nationwide.

“It is a health-club concept,” Rivera said of the Massage Wellness Program.

The program consists of a $49 one-hour introductory massage session that includes five minutes of therapist consultation, 50 minutes of hands-on massage and five minutes for dressing.

After the initial massage session, patrons can pay a $59 monthly membership that includes their first one-hour session each month, a savings of nearly 40 percent off the regular rate. After that, unlimited additional one-hour sessions are $49, a 50-percent discount from the regular rate. Other benefits of the membership include family add-on discounts, guest privileges, retail discounts and the convenience of nationwide membership. Upcoming locations include Fairfax and South Riding.

Massage Envy also provides many other therapeutic services, including prenatal and cranial sacral therapy, a gentle, noninvasive form of alternative medicine that deals with the movement of the fluid surrounding the skull and spine.
