Stone Bridge suffers rare loss

Robinson used a potent rushing attack to hand Stone Bridge its first regular season loss since the second week of the 2005 season – 41-14 on Friday night at Robinson.

The Rams (2-0) rushed for 391 yards and limited the Bulldogs (1-1) to seven first downs in the win. Robinson snapped a halftime tie with 21 straight points in the third quarter.

Patrick Thompson capped off both of the Bulldog scoring drives with touchdown passes -- the first to Ryan Moody in the second quarter and the second to Matt Irwin in the fourth. Thompson’s TD pass to Irwin sliced the Rams’ lead to 28-14, but the hosts answered with a pair of touchdowns to close out the game.

Kareem Alexander paced the Bulldog rushing attack with 65 yards on 11 carries. Thompson completed 10 of 20 passes for 217 yards. Moody was on the receiving end for five of those completions for 100 yards.

The loss ended a 21-game regular season winning streak for the Bulldogs. The 2005 defeat came against another Division 6 power, Oakton. Stone Bridge rebounded from that loss with 11 consecutive wins to reach the Division 5 state championship game. Oakton won the Division 6 state championship that season.

The Bulldogs welcome Marshall to Ashburn on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. as they open the home portion of their 2007 schedule.
