Survey shows high support for Dulles rail

A survey paid for by the Dulles Corridor Rail Association, an advocacy group for the rail extension, found that 93 percent of Northern Virginians and 87 percent of people in the greater Washington, D.C., area support the project.

iQ Research and Consulting conducted the survey via a random sampling of about 400 Northern Virginia residents and 500 people from the D.C. metropolitan area.

About 83 percent of Northern Virginia respondents said they have a favorable impression of Metrorail and 69 percent said they would find the system more useful if it were expanded. A majority also said they view the project as "extremely important" for the region's future.

The survey also asked about other potential Metrorail extensions and the results indicated some support for extending rail around the beltway, up the Interstate 270 corridor, out Interstate 66 to Centreville and extending rail to Potomac Mills mall in Prince William County.
