Local Irish band Scythian was selected as the Fan Favorite for the 2006 WAMMIE Awards.

Masquerade ball

This year, local Irish/world music band Scythian is again throwing its Mad Mad Masquerade New Year's Eve bash at the old Carnegie Library building in Northwest Washington, D.C. The formal affair (bring your mask) features performances by '80s cover band Reflex, world-class magician Nick Locapo, jazz band Yomamanem and, of course, Scythian. There will be an open bar all night. A sell-out crowd of around 1,000 people is expected, making the party one of the District's biggest.

Tickets are $135 in advance, or $149 at the door. 21 and older only, 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Call 800-595-4849 or visit http://www.scythianmusic.com/NewYears2007/.
