Holiday Toast to the City
Perfectly festooned for the holiday season, with colorful electric lights creating a winter wonderland outside with just the right amount of ambiance indoors provided by red poinsettias, green garland and a glowing pine tree adorned with shiny ornaments and golden ribbons, La Rue 123 restaurant in Fairfax City, played host to an event on Sunday evening, Dec 16, appropriately called “Holiday Toast to the City.”
Husband and wife, Huseyin and Didem Kansu, owners and operators of the recently redecorated traditional French cuisine eatery housed within the Bailiwick Inn building, 4023 Chain Bridge Road (Route 123), welcomed dozens of guests, including Fairfax City Mayor Robert Lederer, Fairfax County Supervisor Linda Smyth (D-Providence District) and Fairfax City Councilman Jeffrey Greenfield.
“It’s mostly our regular customers -- I would say about 85 percent -- and a few new faces, which is good for me,” said Huseyin Kansu about those who attended the stylish affair, which featured wine, hors d'oeuvres, live holiday music and a champagne toast delivered by Mayor Lederer.
The owners of La Rue 123, which roughly translates from French into “The Route 123,” named for the street it fronts, said that in 2008, the restaurant will present individual theme evenings at least once a month.
“Every night, there is going to be something special,” said Didem Kansu.
“We’re going to have our first wine dinner,” said Huseyin Kansu describing an event the restaurant is set to host on Monday, Jan. 28, featuring wines from Oregon. Other similar special-event dinners will feature wines from France and Italy.
