If it's Springfield Days, it must be summer!

For as long as I can remember, Springfield Days means that summer is finally here. Individuals and families from all over Fairfax County visit central Springfield to enjoy our weekend celebration of community.
There’s something for everyone from Thursday, May 29, through Sunday, June 1. A family festival with kids’ rides and games; an old-fashioned barbecue (with old-fashioned prices); a parade led by the Paws on Parade marching dogs; a Taste of Springfield; musical entertainment; a sidewalk art show featuring local artists; and, of course, the 19th annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at Lake Accotink Park.
Saturday is a big day! There’s nothing quite like a parade to remind us of the things that bind us together and make us proud to call Springfield home. This year, the parade will again begin at Monticello and Hanover avenues and march down Commerce Street, Springfield’s main street. Bring a folding chair and get a good seat along the parade route! The Springfield Days parade isn’t just for humans – Springfield dogs line up behind their Paws on Parade banner and tail-waggingly march the one-mile parade route. I hope your four-footed friends will join them.
Springfield Days wouldn’t be Springfield Days without the Cardboard Boat Regatta at Lake Accotink Park. If you haven’t yet made it to this event, do check it out this year. It’s amazing how seaworthy some of those cardboard vessels are.
Springfield Days began as a small retail festival and has grown into a major community event. I would like to thank our local businesses, sponsors, and the many dedicated volunteers who have worked hard to make this event such a wonderful gift to the community. I encourage everyone, from toddler to senior citizen, to come to central Springfield and enjoy this celebration.
