Take a stand against rising gas prices

We need in Virginia and nationwide what New Jersey has, a law that gasoline prices are either raised or lowered only once a week.

It seems that American drivers are being gouged by oil companies who are making multimillion dollar profits at the gasoline pumps with daily incremental increases. In one day at various locations there have been increases from 3 to 11 cents and refuel trucks don't come around until the following week. That means drivers are being charged for today's increase price on last week's refueling.

I recall in the 1980s when an individual was making fuel out of garbage. Shortly afterward, the formula and rights were sold and bought by the oil companies when the gasoline price was less than a dollar a gallon at the pumps. This case in point proves without a doubt, America demonstrated having the knowledge and ability to make fuel out of garbage within our environment and reduce our dependency on foreign oil over 20 years ago. In 2008, we are paying $3 to $4 a gallon at the gas pumps when this could have been avoided.

Until the oil companies decide "to do the right thing," that is to make a fair profit at a fair price to their customers at the gasoline pumps, there should be a mandate: gasoline prices raised or lowered one time a week.

If your readership agrees with this mandate of gasoline prices raised or lowered one time a week, I encourage them to clip out this letter, scotch tape it to an 8 x 11.5 sheet of paper and beneath it write, “I agree to the proposed mandate.” Print and sign their names, then forward it to their congressional representatives for complete action.
