RSSAirports Authority approves toll increase
As expected, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board approved a set of toll increases on the Dulles Toll Road Wednesday morning.
Starting Jan. 1, tolls will increase to $1 per car at the main plaza and 75 cents per car at each of the local on- and off-ramps. Tolls at the main plaza will increase again in 2011 and 2012, to $1.25 and then $1.50 per car.
The funds will be used to construct the Dulles Metrorail extension and additional road and tolling improvements in the corridor.
The Authority took over management of the 14-mile toll road from the Virginia Department of Transportation in November 2008. It is responsible for operating and maintaining the road for the next 50 years, as well as completing construction of the rail line, and is allowed to collect the toll revenue in return.
