Noontime Prayer in Loudoun Every Work Day

"Prayer America's Strength and Shield"

By Annette Scheel

Each weekday at the Christ Fellowship Church in Purcellville, citizens gather to pray at 12 Noon for the United States, Virginia and primarily the needs of the people of Loudoun County.  This initiative has been launched in the pattern of the Fulton Street Noontime Prayer and Revival of 1857/58 in New York City.

The idea was launched by Jeremiah Calvin Lanphier who made the observation that it would be profitable to “challenge men engaged in active business to devote a portion of the time usually given to rest and refreshment at mid-day to devotional purposes.”   The prayer times were held in the Dutch Reformed Church, just a few blocks from where the World Trade Center once stood.  The idea was to “give merchants, mechanics, clerks, strangers and businessmen an opportunity to stop and call upon God amid the daily perplexities incident to their respective avocations.”

The Purcellville location for this 12 o’clock hour is at 441 East Main Street, downstairs in the rear of the Medical Building. Anyone with a heart for the concerns of the people of Loudoun and for our Nation is invited to participate in this ecumenical, non-political, hour-long meeting every Monday through Friday.  For more information please call Annette Scheel at (703-727-2945) or email: kagems4@gmail.com
