The Passion Play is performed each year on the Weekend before Easter (Palm Sunday Weekend) at Franklin Park in Loudoun County Virginia.  Come and relive the Easter story in 2008.

Loudoun Passion Play Celebrates 22 Years

"Come see...then go quickly and tell." Matthew 26:10

On Saturday, March 15th, the Loudoun Passion Play will be staged for the 22nd year. Started in 1987, this event has evolved into a full historical reenactment.  The play deals with the turbulent times surrounding the Roman occupation of Jerusalem at the beginning of the first millennium, over 2000 years ago.

Staged outside, in a realistic natural hillside amphitheatre, actors in period costumes perform on stage and move among the audience.  This interactive production encourages the audience to participate as Jerusalem residents and visitors.  Roman legionaries and aristocracy, religious leaders, rebels, and common people play parts in this story.  Animals, including horses, goats, and donkeys, also enliven the scenes.

The sets include a Roman palace, the Jerusalem temple, everyday houses, and outdoor public venues. Since 1987, more than 500 individuals and numerous organizations and businesses from the community have participated as cast, crew and supporters of the Passion Play.  All are invited to attend this free event.  Find a place on the hillside to sit and watch or join the crowd scenes with the cast during the reenactment.

The 2008 Purcellville Passion Play will be held at Franklin Park, in Purcellville, Virginia beginning at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 15, 2008.  Rain date is Sunday, March 16th. Admission is free. Franklin Park is located at 17501 Franklin Park Drive in Purcellville, just south of business Route 7 on the west side of town.
