Washington's tripleheader
If this 48-hour torrential downpour doesn't subside soon, I could find myself on the couch/recliner tonight glued to Washington's 7 p.m. tripleheader: Capitals/Flyers Game 6, Wizards/LeBrons Game 2 and Nationals/Braves Game 5.
Isn't it comical how all three of the hometown teams play tonight, yet not one of them has a home game? Hard to say who'd draw the biggest crowd, honestly.
Quick note: The Nationals are 2-2 against Atlanta this season; 3-12 against the rest of the National League.
Tonight's channel changing could require more than a few difficult decisions. I wasn't raised in a professional basketball environment -- as I've blogged about before -- but since moving here, I've developed a slight affinity for the Wizards and the NBA.
Furthermore, I tuned in -- not for the first time, I've watched coach Eddie Jordan's team quit a bit this season ... evidence -- to Game 1 of the Wizards/Cavs series on Saturday afternoon.
I was hooked. Count me in for tonight.
I clicked on in the first quarter, early enough to see LeBron's ridiculous one-handed slam, and I chuckled when Gilbert Arenas was greeted by a smattering of boos as he entered the game in the first quarter.
Gil silenced nearly every one of those critics Saturday, amassing 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting in 28 minutes, though the Wizards still suffered a difficult 93-86 loss.
I even liked when Brendan Haywood got tangled up with LeBron, and the rest of the Wizards charged in to stick up for their teammate. It almost reminded me of hockey.
I'm not advocating fighting by any means, but Saturday's basketball game was a heckuva lot touchier than 99 percent of the NBA's regular-season affairs. Plus, this series is loaded with storylines.
It's the third year that the Wizards and Cavaliers have met in the playoffs, but the Cavaliers have posted six-game and four-game series wins in 2006 and 2007, respectively.
Still, the Wizards talked trash.
Given the choice between a professional hockey game and a professional basketball game, hockey -- for me -- wins out nearly every single time. However, with the intensity that I saw on Saturday, I think I might gravitate toward basketball tonight.
I'd make a prediction to close out this entry, but I really don't think there is a point. You know what I'm going to say. Anyone who reads this blog knows that I was born and raised in Pittsburgh ... do you honestly think that I'd choose Cleveland?
