South Lakes closed out this season’s indoor track and field season with a school record at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in New York.
Juniors Mary Gregory, Hannah Waller, sophomore Juviannadean Mullings and freshman Jillian Howard ran a 3:48.87 for sixth place in the Championship Division of the 4x400 meter relay at the Armory. The time broke the school record set last month when SLHS won the event in 3:54.75 at the 6A State Indoor Track and Field Championships. It’s also the fourth all-time fastest time recorded by a Virginia school and all four girls earned All-American honors.
Howard, Gregory and Mullings teamed with junior Rhema Konadu for 11th in the Championship Division of the 4x200 Meter Relay. Waller finished 13th in the Championship Division of the 200 Meter Dash (24.43).
The Lady Seahawks also had competitors in the Emerging Elite Division:
• Gregory was 21st in the 400 meter dash (57.91) and 40th in the 200 meter dash (26.03)
• Howard (200 meters), Konadu (200), Mullings (400) and junior Emily Lannen (800) ran a 4:17.01 for 23rd in the 1600 Sprint Medley Relay.
