Dear Editor,

I am eleven years old and I am writing to tell you how much I appreciated your recent article “Fairfax pet store under police investigation for treatment of animals.” It is so important to educate the public on the importance of not supporting an institution that deals out pain and suffering in exchange for profits. Unfortunately, I find so many kids and their parents are unaware of the horrors of the pet store and animal mill industry. This is an industry that specializes in deceptive practices and boldface lies all in the name of making money. They do not care about the pain and suffering of the animals or the families who fall in love with a new pet only to discover they have a multitude of health problems from poor breeding and inadequate care. Education of the public is the key to putting pet stores and the animal mills who supply them out of business.

I will be asking my parents to contact their state legislators to take action and stop the sale of mass-produced animals from puppy mills and rabbit mills in pet stores. I will encourage my friends to do the same.
