IT solutions and cloud computing consultants Acumen Solutions is putting on a benefit concert this Sunday, July 17 on the Town Green in Downtown Herndon. “Concert for a Cause,” as they are referring to it, is a charity event that will feature live music from local and national artists alike, activities, cold beer and food from a variety of local vendors.
While Acumen Solutions has been active in fundraising for charities with their annual Race for a Cause 8K, “Concert for a Cause” is the company’s first stab at using music to bring people together. “We started to look at… the community around us and said, ‘OK a lot of people love to do races, but probably a lot more like music,” says Margie Johnson, director of corporate care with Acumen Solutions. “We always try to find a base where we can give our nonprofit partners a larger reach and greater visibility into the communities they serve and we felt like music was one of the things that brings people together.”
Crowds at “Concert for a Cause” will be entertained by performances from local bands Rocknoceros and Gonzo’s Nose, as well as national acts like country duo High Valley and winner of season three of NBC’s “The Voice,” Cassadee Pope.
The more pint-sized patrons will be entertained by kids’ Zumba dance classes, Beach Ball Blast and Balloon Girls, as well as cornhole boards for all ages. Food will be provided by Ooh Dat Chicken, Rito Loco, Carolina Q, Coldstone Creamery, Captain Cookie and Philly Cheese Steak. Cold beer will be made available through Premium Distributors of Washington, D.C.
Though “Concert for a Cause” will be chock full of activities and entertainment, there is still a higher purpose to the fun. Tickets to the event range between $20 - $40 and 100 percent of those ticket sales will go towards 12 different nonprofit organizations in the area; Young Playwrights Theater, American Childhood Cancer Organization, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, Crossroads Adaptive Athletic Alliance, For Love of Children, Girls on the Run, Libray Council of NOVA, REAL School Gardens, Ronald McDonald House, The Reading Connection, Shelter House and The Women’s Center.
Acumen has partnered with insurance brokers The Meltzer Group, public accounting firm CohnReznick, real estate company Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), website design company LookThink, People Stretch Solutions, nonprofit collective management organization SoundExchange and solutions provider TalTeam, among many others to make “Concert for a Cause” possible.
“We hope that it is a great, fun community effort,” Johnson says. “We hope that [participants] learn more about the services that these fine organizations are doing within their community, and we hope that they recognize by coming out and investing in a ticket that they, in fact, have really helped these organizations… We want it to be a ‘win-win’; a win for people coming out, having a good time and seeing some entertainment, and it’s also very much a win for these organizations to help continue serving people in need.”
