Workers hang a Sikorsky R-4B Helicopter in the new National Museum of the United States Army on Feb. 5. The R-4 was the world's first large-scale mass-produced helicopter and the first helicopter used by the United States Army Air Forces.
The National Museum of the United States Army will open to the public in 2020. The 185,000 square foot national landmark is being constructed on 84 acres near Ft. Belvoir. It will be the only museum in the Army Museum Enterprise dedicated to preserving and promoting the entire history of America’s oldest and largest military service. Currently, the Army is the only military service without a national museum.
