On Feb. 22, Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin C. Roessler, Jr. announced the unexpected death of Doby, a loyal and beloved K9 officer. He was only two years old.
According to Roessler, Doby was part of a patrol canine team that on the day he died responded to assist on a call for an armed robbery in the Arlington Drive area of Alexandria in the Mount Vernon District.
During the incident, Roessler said Doby collapsed and stopped breathing.
His handler administered canine CPR and rushed Doby to the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield, but Doby did not survive.
Police say there will be a necropsy to determine Doby’s cause of death.
Doby was born in Hungary and had recently just turned two years old.
He had been a member of the FCPD since March 2018, and actively working cases since August 2018.
