Detectives from the FCPD Crash Reconstruction Unit are asking for the public’s assistance identifying a vehicle and driver involved in a crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian, 72-year-old Chandra Bhandari, of Falls Church.

Police say officers responded to the report of an injured pedestrian on Leesburg Pike near I-495, shortly before seven a.m. on Feb. 26

Bhandari was found near a crosswalk and was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminarily, detectives say they believe Bhandari was crossing the on-ramp from eastbound Leesburg Pike to southbound I-495 between 6 and 6:30 a.m. and was hit by a vehicle. The motorist reportedly did not stop and drove away from the scene. Speed appears to be a factor for the driver. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors for Bhandari.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the FCPD Crash Reconstruction Unit witness phone line: 703-280-0543.
