The arrival of spring brings hundreds of horses and riders to Leesburg for their 2019 equestrian season debut at Morven Park’s Spring Horse Trials. This family-friendly equestrian event is free for spectators and is perfect for budding equestrians, full-fledged horse enthusiasts, and nature lovers of all ages.

This year’s event, held on March 30-31, marks the 46th year of Horse Trials at the Morven Park International Equestrian Center. Also known as “eventing,” Horse Trials is the triathlon of horse sports. Spectators are encouraged to observe powerful horses navigate the cross-country course at top speed, appreciate the elegance of dressage while enjoying a picnic on the berm overlooking the state-of-the-art arena complex, and hold their breath in amazement as horse and rider navigate show jumping obstacles.

Both days of competition will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and starting times will be posted at MorvenPark.org/HorseTrials. The Park Café will be open for competitors and spectators to grab a cup of coffee, a brisket sandwich, and the always popular “Frickles” appetizer. Horse Trials is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the sport of eventing as well as Morven Park’s picturesque 1,000 acres on a beautiful spring day.

“Spring Horse Trials is always a good time. We see local riders competing for top honors and we see a lot of spectators out and about on the course really getting a feel for eventing. We are so lucky to live in horse country and Morven Park is thrilled to host an event of this caliber each year,” said Sheryl Williams, Morven Park’s Executive Director.

The 2019 Morven Park Spring Horse Trials are made possible by many generous sponsors. This year’s Presenting Sponsor is SmartPak, a popular equine supplement and supply company.
