Shippensburg University Freshman Lacey Hunter of Centreville, a Centreville High School graduate, was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Softball Athlete of the Week on April 8 by the league office after leading the team with eight hits in a 4-2 week for the Shippensburg Raiders.
Hunter went 8-for-15 (.533) at the plate with a double, four RBIs, four stolen bases, a sacrifice, three runs scored and two outfield assists. SU went 3-1 in conference games, posting a Thursday split at Kutztown and a Saturday sweep vs. Millersville.
On Saturday, Hunter was 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI single, a sacrifice and two steals in the sweep of Millersville. Her leadoff double in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 1 started SU’s four-run rally for a comeback win.
In Thursday’s Game 1 win at Kutztown, Hunter was 3-for-3 with a two-run single, two steals and two runs scored. On Tuesday, Hunter went 2-for-3 with an RBI in SU’s Game 2 victory at Lock Haven.
Over the last 10 games, Hunter has been Shippensburg’s leading hitter, batting .370 (10-for-27) with five RBIs. She becomes only the second Raider to achieve a PSAC weekly award this season, as Courtney Coy was honored on March 18 and March 25.
