Nick’s Picks

Last week: 2-1

Centreville 35, Gonzaga 28

You won’t see more talent on one high school football field all season than you will at Centreville on Friday. With multiple Division I college commits on both sides, the rare public vs. private showdown should be a barnburner in front of a national TV audience. I like Centreville’s continuity with its returning coaching staff and player personnel, not to mention home field advantage.

Stone Bridge 27, Lake Braddock 21

Lake Braddock’s offense showed too much sloppiness against an inferior West Potomac team to make me believe they’ll excel against a stout Stone Bridge defense that returns nine starters this year. But don’t expect perfection from a Stone Bridge offense that scrapped its traditional single wing formation in favor of the spread this season.

South County 38, Hayfield 28

Everybody seemed to be working out the kinks last Friday, and South County was no exception. Look for the Stallions to show more polish on the offensive side of the ball this week. Given Hayfield’s offensive talent, I’d predict this to be more of a shootout if South County’s defense weren’t so good.
