Fairfax County police say a man died after he was hit Monday morning by a tractor-trailer on Fairfax County, near Fox Mill Road.

Clayton F. Young, 54, of Oakton Chase Court in Oak Hill was killed, police said.

Police said a 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by a 51-year-old Pennsylvania man, was southbound on the parkway just before 6:30 a.m., approaching the intersection of Fox Mill Road.

Police said the tractor-trailer driver reported seeing a Cadillac Escalade SUV parked on the right shoulder underneath the Pinecrest Road overpass.

As the Freightliner got closer, Young apparently stepped out from in front of his SUV and into the path of the oncoming truck. The truck driver tried to steer away, but hit Young before stopping.

Police said the impact caused Young to hit the roadway and sustain serious life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Reston Hospital Center and was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured and has not been named.

“This incident is under investigation and no charges have been brought forward at this time,” police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said on Monday. “Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.”
