A Mount Vernon man has been charged with repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor under his care, according to Fairfax County Police.

Heriberto Urratia, 25, babysat two young girls, aged 9 and 6, in a Mount Vernon residence, and was charged June 11 with raping the 9-year-old girl over an extended period of time.

Police spokesperson Lucy Caldwell said the allegations came forth as a result of the young girl using adult language that led to her parents asking her where she had heard it.

Once they initiated that conversation, police said the rape allegations surfaced.

“It was language that typical children of that age may not use,” said Caldwell.

Police say the investigation is continuing and that they are investigating whether there may be more potential victims and further charges pending. Urratia is currently being held in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.

No attorney information is listed for Urratia yet in court records.
