I am responding to the recent letter regarding TJ admissions (“TJ must admit most qualified students,” Fairfax Times, May 9-11). Mr. Yan stated that we live in the United States of America…not a black or white America. Really? That’s why he is advocating for more Asian students at Thomas Jefferson.

The Asian enrollment at TJ is at 66 percent of the students. I think they are covered. When did our community develop such an overinflated opinion of this high school? There are graduates of “the other high schools” in this are who attend Harvard, MIT and Brown Universities and those students never saw the inside of Thomas Jefferson.

Mr. Yan wants fair? How about this. The admissions application for TJ should no longer ask about race, gender or legacy. Everyone takes the admissions tests, writes the two essays and then there is a lottery. How is that for fair.
