A Fairfax County school bus caught fire early Wednesday morning at a bus storage facility near Westfield High School in Chantilly, according to the Fairfax County fire department.

Firefighters responded at approximately 12:30 a.m. Wednesday to the fire at the school bus lot, located in the 4700 block of Stonecroft Boulevard, across the street from the high school.

One school bus was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived. A nearby bus also sustained heavy damage from the blaze, according to fire department spokesman Daniel Schmidt.

“The first bus was destroyed - a complete loss,” said Schmidt.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. No injuries were reported, and the fire had no affect to school transportation on Wednesday, according to school system officials. The damage is estimated at $160,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
