A 2-year-old boy was airlifted to a local burn center after attempting to drink from a cup of hot coffee at his Laytonsville home Tuesday evening.

The child, of the 21000 block of Golf Estates Dr., received both internal and external burns and was in serious condition, said Assistant Chief Scott Graham, a spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services on Wednesday.

Graham said they are treating the incident, which occurred at about 7 p.m., as accidental.
