Dr. Alfred Dement Bonifant, 91, of Silver Spring, died Jan. 14, 2013.
Born to the late George F. and Ann E. Tolson Bonifant, he is survived by his wife Betsy H, Bonifant. He was predeceased by two children, Betsy Willson and Alfred D. Bonifant II.
He graduated from the University of Maryland and completed his medical training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. After serving in the U.S. Army Medical Core during WWII, he joined a private practice with Dr. Jacob Bird, founder of the original Montgomery General Hospital in Olney. He practiced medicine in the Olney community for more than 40 years and served on the MGH Health Foundation Board until his death.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two children, Susan Haberlin and Mary Claire Barnes, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services took place at 11 a.m. Jan. 18 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Silver Spring. Roy W. Barber Funeral Home in Laytonsville handled the arrangements.
