Prince George’s County Police identified the 18-year-old who was fatally shot early Monday morning in an alleged botched robbery in Temple Hills and the suspected shooter.

Police said just after midnight in the 5000 block of Temple Hill Road, Darrel Sales, 18, of the 6100 block of Kildare Court in Fort Washington, attempted to rob two victims when a fight broke out, leaving Anthony Boatwright of the 5800 block of Foote Street NE, Washington, D.C., fatally wounded from a gunshot.

“The suspect grabbed a gun from his waistband and shot one of the victims,” said Sgt. Sonya Rorls, a county police spokeswoman.

Rorls said officers were nearby when the incident took place, and were able to locate and apprehend Sales minutes later. Boatwright was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

“The homicide unit was able to develop a suspect right away because one of the victims on scene was able to identify the shooter.”

A number was listed for Boatwright’s address but was not working on Tuesday. A number could not be immediately located for Sales on Tuesday and no attorney information was listed for him in online Prince George’s County District Court records.

The other victims in the attempted robbery was uninjured, Rorls said.

Sales is charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in a felony crime and first degree assault.
