Great Falls Little League Majors defeated Atlee, 4-3, on Thursday to claim the state championship and advance to Southeastern Regionals.
Danny Hosley belted a solo shot over the fence in the top of the eighth inning to put Great Falls ahead by one run. With runners on second and third in the bottom of the eighth, Kyle Novak struck out Atlee’s final batter to seal the win.
“I’m extraordinarily proud of these guys,” Great Falls Manager Ryan Novak said. “We took it one game at a time, and it was just a phenomenal state championship. I don’t think I’ve ever been involved with a better baseball game than that game.”
Great Falls swept all six of its games in the state tournament. They racked up an 11-1 record in district and state tournament play, hitting 47 home runs and outscoring opponents by a combined 139-23.
They open regional play Aug. 3 at 4 p.m. against Tennessee.
