St. Mary’s Ryken High School senior Finlay Cushen has been chosen as Outstanding Female Catholic Youth by the Archdiocese of Washington.

The award is presented to a high school senior for being a leader to young people within a Catholic youth organization.

Cushen, of Port Tobacco, is a member of Sacred Heart Church in La Plata.

Cushen was presented with the award on May 9 at the Office of Youth Ministry/Catholic Youth Organization board of directors awards banquet held in Hyattsville.

She is a member of the National Honor Society and performed in this year’s spring musical, “Honk!”

In the fall, Cushen will be pursuing a degree in early childhood education at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio.
