Two new exhibitions will open Friday at VisArts, 155 Gibbs St., Rockville. The first, “________scape,” slips a variety of nouns into the title’s blank space, as artists investigate the semantic origins of landscape as a condition, shape or idea rather than the depiction of scenery. Skinscapes, airscapes and interscapes are among the paintings, drawings and photographs that will be on view in the Kaplan Gallery through Aug. 1. In the solo exhibition “If Wishes Were Inches,” Bresler resident artist Devin Gong exhibits recent paintings that combine floating, non-linear narratives, explosive color and spatially ambiguous compositions. The exhibit runs through July 1 in the Gibbs Street Gallery. Gallery hours are noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call 301-315-8200.
