Two men have been charged with rape and aggravated malicious wounding after a 50-year-old woman was attacked May 11 in Merrifield, according to Fairfax County Police.

The woman allegedly was hit over the head with an object shortly after 1 a.m. before being sexually assaulted by both men, who then robbed her of cash before fleeing the scene, police said.

According to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, the woman was homeless and the alleged incident took place on church property, near a Montessori school.

“We have been informed by Fairfax County police that [May 11], an assault took place on Holy Cross property,” the church said in a news release posted on its website. “One of our homeless neighbors was attacked outside the building at about 1:10 a.m. There is no evidence at this time that the attackers tried to enter the building or did any damage to church property. The Montessori school was not open at the time of the attack.”

Police have charged Rivelino Villegas-Posada, 34, of Falls Church with rape by force or threat and malicious wounding. Court records state Villegas-Posada was charged in 2009 with unlawful wounding and stalking in two unrelated cases, but that those charges were dismissed.

Police also have charged Jubencio Castro, 24, of no fixed address with rape by force or threat and malicious wounding in reference to the same incident.

Police said robbery charges also are forthcoming in the case.

No attorney information has yet been made available for either suspect. According to court records, both men are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 2.
