BaseballLake Braddock (16-1, 11-0 Patriot)

With three games remaining, Lake Braddock’s perfect conference record pretty much locks up the No. 1seed in the Patriot tournament. However, a few key games remain. The Bruins finish the season with a road game against rival South County on Thursday.

Centreville (14-3, 5-2 Concorde)

A 2-1 loss to Robinson is a setback for the Wildcats, but the team rebounded with a 3-1 victory Tuesday night against Herndon. Westfield, Oakton and Chantilly remain on the schedule, and those games will determine who gets the pivotal bye in the Concorde tournament.

Westfield (11-4, 5-2 Concorde)

Westfield is coming on strong to end the season — a five-game winning streak that includes victories against Concorde opponents Centreville, Herndon, Oakton, Chantilly and Robinson. That streak puts the Bulldogs in place to battle for a bye in the upcoming district tournament.

Stone Bridge (13-4, 10-1 Liberty)

Tuesday night’s 12-4 victory against Langley puts the Bulldogs in control of the Liberty with three games remaining. Clashes with South Lakes, Marshall and Fairfax remain, but Stone Bridge is on a roll and could finish on a 10-game winning streak.

McLean (11-5, 8-2 Liberty)

The team’s 9-1 loss to Stone Bridge is let down, but the Highlanders still are one of the most talented teams in the area. McLean has shown it can compete — and beat — anyone. Expect the Highlanders to be in the Liberty title mix, and even contend in the Northern Region tournament.

SoftballLake Braddock (16-0, 11-0 Patriot)

Is there something in the water in Burke? Not only is the school’s baseball team the area’s best, but the softball team remains unbeaten. That is prime position to contend for the Northern Region title later this month. Three contests remain with back-to-back rivalry games against West Potomac and South County.

Stone Bridge (14-2, 10-1 Liberty)

Losses to Briar Woods and McLean seemed to slow down the Bulldogs momentum, but the team got back on track with an 11-6 rout of Langley on Tuesday night. Games against South Lakes, Oakton and Fairfax remain.

Madison (13-4, 9-2 Liberty)

Its eight-game winning streak came to a end against Stone Bridge last week, 13-2. But the Warhawks bounced back by blanking South Lakes, 4-0, on Tuesday night. Look for Madison and Stone Bridge to meet up again in the Liberty tournament.

Oakton (9-1, 7-0 Concorde)

Apologies to Oakton for excluding it in the Starting Five thus far. To the team’s credit, its been flying under the radar as one of the area’s best. While other squads are dealing out crushing victories (i.e. Stone Bridge and Lake Braddock), the Cougars have grinded it out behind stellar pitching and teamwork, en route to a commanding lead over the the rest of the district.

South County (14-2, 9-1 Patriot)

With Lake Braddock seemingly in control of the Patriot, second place is a two-team race between the Stallions and West Potomac. That seeding could be determined on Tuesday, when the teams face off in their final meeting of the regular season.
